Foxcatcher (2014) Review

foxcatcher-review-1

“Coach is the father. Coach is a mentor. Coach has great power on athlete’s life.”

So I can finally say the words that “I saw Foxcatcher.” Did I like it? (Yes) Did I set my hopes way to high? (Probably) I can say that Foxcatcher is not the movie for you if you aren’t into a lot of dialogue. There is a lot of talking in this movie and I do mean a lot! Many things make Foxcatcher a good film. Performances make this film, I do not think I have seen a movie with three stellar performances like this ever. Channing shines, Ruffalo dazzles, and Steve Carell looks very different than we are use to seeing. The cinematography in this movie was just plain gorgeous and the directing was spot on from Bennett Miller.

Foxcatcher, The movie itself: Foxcatcher is the true story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his brother David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) who was Marks trainer and their story of trying to win gold in the Olympics and how their lives were affected by a not so mentally sane teacher in John Du Pont (Steve Carell)

ACTING: (Channing Tatum) I have seen a lot of Channing Tatum movies now that I think of it. Foxcatcher is hands down Channing’s best performance of his career. I loved his dedication to the character of Mark Schultz and the darkness he was able to draw into his performance. When you see this movie, you will instantly get the tone of Channing’s character and you will be very impressed. I am really surprised he didn’t at least snag a Golden Globe nomination for this one.

(Mark Ruffalo) Everyone is going to think I’m crazy, but Mark Ruffalo’s performance was my favorite in the entire film. I don’t know what was able to pull me in. I think it could have his accent, his focus, or just his performance. I loved everything he portrayed about David Schultz and his portrayal of the love Dave Schultz had for his brother. Solid performance and most deserving Oscar nomination for Ruffalo.

(Steve Carell) I liked Carell’s performance in this one, but I just feel like their could have been more there! Everyone is dazzled by his transformation, but a lot of that is due to the make up department and not actually Carell himself. He does a good job and I personally love him as an actor, but I feel like he could have made his performance of Du Pont a little more “intimidating”. Hard to believe he snagged an Oscar nomination over Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.

Steve Carell in Foxcatcher

DIRECTION: I absolutely love Bennett Miller! Moneyball is one of my all time favorite movies and his direction was just as clear in it as it is in this one. I think that Direction is what makes this movie more than average. Miller nails this one in every aspect. The pace, tone, and energy that he is able to carry throughout the movie is very nice and he was much deserving of his most recent Oscar nomination.

WRITING: I liked the writing in this one! Was it dull at times? (Yes) Was I even bored at times? (Yes). The dialogue was good, but some of the stuff could have been left out. Nothing was to much for me or too extreme, but some parts were a little lengthy and had me wondering what they were even doing in the film to begin with. I think the writing was good, but the lengthy and dull dialogue could have been cut out.

(Side note): This film could have been about twenty minutes shorter and it would have been provided with better pacing and not so many slow moments.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Beautiful! Probably one of the visually brought to life films of 2014. I was mesmerized with the way the DuPont estate was captured and the beautiful scenery that surrounded it. Maybe it is just something in me, but the Cinematography in this one was breathtaking. Greig Fraser was robbed of an Oscar nomination.

SUMMARY: What can I say? When I first saw the trailer for Foxcatcher, I got super excited and put the movie up on a huge pedestal that most movies don’t live up to. Foxcatcher is a good movie and I liked it a lot, but at the end of the day there was something missing and I think that was darkness. I don’t really feel like I got to know the true darkness of John Du Pont and that is what I was looking forward to the most. This is a good one, but their were just some things that could have been better. With all that being said, it’s a solid picture and is worth a watch if you are a fan of strong performances, excellent direction, average writing, and mesmerizing cinematography.

Overall Grade: 8/10

“There’s no room for love in this game”

Fun! That’s the word I think of when I think of Focus and that is what it is. I had my eye on Focus for a while ever since the trailer debuted last year and it lived up to pretty much everything I figured it would be. This film has plenty of aspects to pull you in with its pretty people, humorous dialogue, and bright, colorful atmosphere. I liked this film a lot and was surprised with its unexpected twists and turns that I think are far from unpredictable. Focus is a fun ride of wit, humor, cleverness, and emotion and is steered strong with its good performances from Will Smith and Margot Robbie.

Focus, The movie itself: Focus centers around Nicky (Will Smith) who is a veteran con man at the top of his game until he meets Jess (Margot Robbie) and his whole life is turned upside down. Smiths character comes across Robbie at in her rookie days of trying to con and takes her under his wing. Things eventually get interesting when both realize there is more to their relationship than just the business aspects. Focus is no masterpiece and will not get any acclaim, but it sure is a fun ride!

ACTING: Where have you been Will Smith? Will Smith is probably one of the best and smoothest actors that I can think of with his delivery, energy, and portrayal of his character. I wasn’t just enamored with Smiths performance and I wasn’t expecting to be, but he brings it in his delivery and portrayal. This role did not originally go to Will, but I am glad it did because nobody could have pulled it off better. I think that Will Smith is one of those multi dimensional actors who can pull off just about any character portrayal and has done just that. Smith plays a great con man who gets more than he bargained for when a girl walks in and changes everything for him and the inner conflict of his character is done so well. Please stop coming out with movies every two years Will! I think we would like to see more of him.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie in Focus

You have a bunch of potential of Margot Robbie, but I need to see more. Margot Robbie is a good actress and she did well in this film, but there is just something missing. As far as characters go, Margot plays a very simple one and there’s nothing wrong with that. This is really only Robbie’s second role since her debut in The Wolf Of Wall Street. Robbie does well and gives a great portrayal of girl who falls for a con man and gets attached, but there just isn’t many dimensions there and that’s what puts a little sting on her performance. I just feel like her role on The Wolf Of Wall Street and Focus were really simple and weren’t that complex when it came to performance. We will all get to see if Robbie is the real deal when she delivers her portrayal of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.

Sidenote: There was not that many good supporting acts in this one and that and I think that hurt it a little bit.

Margot Robbie in Focus
Margot Robbie in Focus

DIRECTION: Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have a particular smoothness, texture, and vibe to their movies that is just hard to describe; Maybe it’s the pretty people they are able to cast in their movies such as Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid, Love or Will Smith and Margot Robbie in this one, but whatever the case is; they are both very good directors and do a very good job with this film. This film is all about smooth con, criminals, and how love can send everything tumbling down. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa do a great job of bringing this vivid and colorful picture to life. There is nothing baffling here, but there is nothing to complain about either.

Glenn Ficarra (left) and John Requa (right) at the premiere of Focus
Glenn Ficarra (left) and John Requa (right) at the premiere of Focus

WRITING: Glenn Ficarra and John Requa handled the script for this one and it was just as smooth as their direction. I think one thing that surprised me was the amount of humor in the script and how perfectly balanced it was. Focus has a great script with nice flow and the perfect mix of fun, serious, and humorous dialogue.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: I was actually a huge fan of the cinematography even though it is nothing to lose your mind over. I loved the bright colors, texture, and atmosphere of the whole film. The film is very well shot and takes advantage of the superb locations that it is shot in. Xavier Grobet does good with what he’s given in this one.

SUMMARY: What can I say? I really liked Focus and would probably watch it again. Focus is a movie of smooth con and how love can send everything into a wild ride. Great dialogue, Good performanes, Smooth direction, and sweet atmosphere make Focus a picture I would recommend to almost anyone. There is nothing that will blow you away here, but if you like a fun ride with a few twists and turns then this one is for you.

Overall Grade: 7.1/10

Whiplash (2014) Review

MV5BMTU1NjE1MTk4OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMjA0MjQ3MjE@._V1__SX1857_SY927_“There are no two words in the English language more harmful than good job.”

Wow, just wow! I have been thinking how to talk about my second reviewed best picture nominee of the year and I have to admit there is so much to be said. I simply loved Whiplash with all my heart and it is nothing short of a masterpiece. Whiplash is a spectacular drama that stars the likes of the brilliant Miles Teller and the Oscar winning man himself, J.K Simmons and their genius is captured in this film.

Whiplash, The movie itself: Whiplash centers around Andrew (Miles Teller) who is a student at a prestige music academy and who wants to be great more than anything and will stop at nothing until he does. Teller meets his match when he meets the ruthless and cutthroat Fletcher (J.K. Simmons). I loved everything about this movie from the direction, acting, writing and so many other wonderful characteristics. Whiplash is a story of a boy who is pushed to the best of his abilities and struggles with the man who is pushing him.

ACTING: Can anyone say Revelation? I have seen a bunch of Miles Teller movies from his rookie days in Footloose, The Spectacular Now, and even his not so good ones like 21 & Over, That Awkward Moment, and Divergent but man this takes the cake for his best performance of all time. I do not think he will ever do another crap studio movie after his performance in this one. Teller is so invested in his character and that is what makes his performance so beautiful. Teller has never invested himself in a character as much as he has this one. He brings it emotionally, dramatically and everything else in between. Teller plays his innocence so well and you really see his character develop throughout the entire film. I loved his performance so much and he was a great main character, I was so invested in his story that I could barley blink throughout.

Miles Teller in Whiplash
Miles Teller in Whiplash

I can not even begin to describe J.K. Simmons performance! He is a mastermind who holds nothing back in his performance and is more than deserving of his most recent Oscar win! Simmons is a ruthless music teacher who pushes his students to their absolute limits and seems to never be satisfied. Simmons brought so many angles to his performance. He brought the dark energy and anger that spews out of his character and his delivery was beyond incredible. To my surprise, Simmons was very much of the comic relief due to his hilarious insults that could rival Gordon Ramsey. I loved the dynamics he brought to his character and the ruthless, cutthroat, brilliant attitude that he brought. Simmons character intimidated me and if he had the ability to do that, then he had the ability to do it to other movie watchers and it shows why he held up that Oscar this past Sunday. (Simply amazing performance)

J.K. Simmons in Whiplash
J.K. Simmons in Whiplash

DIRECTION: Who is Damien Chazelle and why have I never heard of him? Not just the direction, but Damien’s dedication to this film is remarkable. Whiplash originally could not funding so Damien Chazelle made it into a short film which won at the Sundance Film Festival and then soon got the proper funding. Chazelle is such a mastermind with his direction in this film and delivered a true epic story. I never felt like a part could have been done better or a actor could have been more motivated. Chazelle orchestrates this movie like a symphony and achieves an amazing feat with just 19 days given to direct.

Damien Chazelle (Red Shirt) on the set of Whiplash
Damien Chazelle (Red Shirt) on the set of Whiplash

WRITING: Damien Chazelle wrote the script as well and it is handled just as gracefully as his direction is. The script has the perfect balance of intense, relaxed, and sometimes humorous dialogue. Whiplash is written so amazingly and so gracefully and just does such a good job of keeping the watcher interested in the story. I never once saw a dull moment in the story or dialogue and this is because of the brilliant writing that this film is graced with. Just amazing!

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Awesome! Whiplash is an amazing visual film. The location and atmosphere were perfect for the film and were captured so beautifully. I was reminded of the cinematography from Gone Girl and The Social Network which I absolutely admired. Sharone Meir does an amazing job of bringing the world to life and gives the film the amazing look that it has throughout.

SUMMARY: I can not say enough good things about Whiplash! The acting is absolutely amazing and award winning and deserves all the acclaim it has gotten. Direction, Writing, and Cinematography are all done so wonderfully and gracefully and give the film everything a movie watcher could want. If you love great acting, direction, writing, visuals and eveerything in between then I would call Whiplash a movie that any serious movie watcher would love. This amazing film has won 3 Oscars for best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role and deserves every single one of them.

American Sniper (2015) Review

Posted on Updated on

MV5BMTcwNzQ0MTc5NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTU4NzM1MzE@._V1__SX1857_SY884_

“What haunts me is all the people I couldn’t save”

Bradley Cooper is back and better than ever a career defining role that shows why he is at the top of his game and that he is one of the most dedicated actors of this generation. Let me begin by saying that American Sniper is a good movie but is not a great movie and you will not leave the cinema having seen a masterpiece, but you will have seen an amazing film based on the true story of an American hero. Bradley Cooper gives one of his best performances and it shows with his third consecutive Oscar nomination.

AMERICAN SNIPER, The movie itself: American Sniper is the true story of American soldier Chris Kyle and has Bradley Cooper as Kyle and Clint Eastwood at the helm directing which should be one of his last films hopefully. The film captures Iraq during the middle of war perfectly and gives you a first class ticket into the lives and hardships of what our American troops went through. The film gives off plenty of action (more than I wanted) and delivers amazingly with its drama. American Sniper is a film of love, courage, family, and the will of one man and the sacrifices he was willing to make for his country while trying to salvage his own personal relationships.

ACTING: I honestly don’t think Bradley Cooper will ever stop surprising me with his work ethic and dedication he has for his roles. Coopers deception of Kyle is amazing as any average movie watcher can tell he throws himself in his performance and keeps it close to himself Cooper brings emotionally and physical and delivers in all aspects. Just Coopers physical performance is amazing, having taken on a 8,000 a day calorie diet, a 4 hour a day workout routine and other grueling physical changes shows how dedicated he is. Cooper also nails Kyle’s accent and facial hair and probably had the closest resemblance that anyone has had to a character they were portraying. I can not say enough amazing things about Bradley Cooper, he throws himself into his performances, delivers in every aspect and shows why he is arguably the most committed actor there is and why he has earned three consecutive Oscar nominations.

Honestly, I never had seen a Sienna Miller film before this one and I am so glad I picked this one to start. Miller is an absolute gem and delivers her performance just as well as Cooper. I feel like Miller was the emotional rock of the film which was so huge for this move because emotion is a huge foundation in this movie. Sienna’s transformation was also amazing between her hair, actions, voice (she’s British) and just emotional focus and tone that she brought to her character. I honestly am shocked that Miller’s performance didn’t at least snag her a Golden Globe.

Sienna Miller in American Sniper
Sienna Miller in American Sniper

DIRECTION: As much as I hate so say it, I think Clint Eastwood is losing the magic touch that we all know him to have. The man is a legend both on and off the screen, but his direction was obviously sloppy in this one. Eastwood seemed to focus on more of the war aspects of the film other than Chris Kyle’s personal life. I initially went into the movie wanting to know more about Chris Kyle’s personal life and the things he went through in Iraq and the thoughts and emotions he felt and while there is flashes of this, it is mostly just the action Chris Kyle got of being a sniper. In a simpler sense, I felt like I watched a action movie rather than a drama. Eastwood could have done so much better with this one.

WRITING: I have never read the book about Chris Kyle, but i feel like the script in this movie does not do it justice. I need to read the book that this film was based off of to make more of an analysis about the script. I loved the dialogue between the characters (mostly Miller and Cooper). Other aspects of the scripts lacked in areas though. The writing is by no means bad, just don’t be expected to be blown away. It was obviously good enough to snag an Oscar nomination.

Bradley Cooper in American Sniper
Bradley Cooper in American Sniper

CINEMTOGRAPHY: Brilliant! Tod Stern captures Iraq during the heat of war beautifully and with his nice shots of the environment and setting the tone for the film and also delivers some simply amazing shots of California and Texas in the home scenes. I was a huge fan of Stern in this one.

SUMMARY: Although the direction is sloppy and the writing is average, American Sniper delivers with its simply brilliant performances, great tone, and pure war atmosphere. I feel like the story could have been a little more personal and little less action but we can’t have it all. Chris Kyle was an American hero and this film would make him proud if he was still here. American Sniper is great deception of an American hero and is very much worth a watch. It is a that can offer many opinions to people.

Overall Grade: 7.9/10

Men, Women &Children (2014) Review

Posted on Updated on

MV5BMTA5NTQzMjEwMjdeQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU4MDE5NjY5NTIx._V1__SX2087_SY1007_

” I think if I disappeared tomorrow, the universe wouldn’t really notice”

Jason Reitman probably has one of the most unique perspectives when it comes to films and that’s what we get with Men, Women & Children. Reitman does and amazingly awesome job in bringing probably the best portrayal of what it is like in todays modern society. Men, Women & Children is a great example of the digital age that we all live in and the effect it has on us.

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN, The movie itself: I think the movie itself was good,  it wasn’t the best thing I have ever seen and it was not the worst thing I have ever seen. MW&C is a film all about teenagers and some adults all dealing with a variety of issues that they are dealing with and we as watchers get to follow each story that are told from a unique perspective and each storyline is involved with technology and makes you really see what it can do someone’s life and how we as a society rely on it so much. This film gives off a huge portrayal of people just trying to connect and navigate through their lives.

ACTING: Their is much acting in MW&C (all good) and I will try to delve into each performance for you guys.

Kaitlyn Dever as Brandy Beltmeyer was absolutely great. I will be honest, this actress has so much potential for future roles. Dever’s character was so well crafted and her portrayal was spot on of a teenager who wants to discover herself and live her life but is held down by her over bearing mother. This is actress is definitely on my watch list! (not that way)

Adam Sandler as Don Truby was (DRUMROLL) GOOD! I know I probably sound crazy but I think Adam Sandler can still act and has potential but we all know he will disappoint us again real soon. Sandler’s character was spot on as a man who has seen his marriage become seemingly boring and is looking for a spark in his life to make him feel alive again. I also loved his portrayal of a dark, bored man whose life has become a routine.

Rosemarie DeWitt as Helen Truby was great. DeWitt’s performance was on par with Sandler’s since their characters both have similar traits and you really get a sense of what their marriage use to be and you get see what it is now. I really got a sense that her character loves her husband but they both lost their passion for each other somewhere down the road.

Jennifer Garner as Patricia Beltmeyer was awesome! I have always loved Garner even though I have not seen many of her films and this film made just keep on liking her. Garner’s character is pretty simple actually, she plays a mom is very, very, very, very, VERY strict mother who limits her daughter when it comes to technology. I found myself thinking her character was taking it a little far but the deeper I delved into this film I realized that she is just trying to protect her daughter who she loves from the insane things that are out their virtually.

Judy Greer was amazing was in my top three performances  of this film and I absolutely liked her  character. Greer portrays Donna Clint, a mom who struggles with doing what’s right when it comes to her daughter. I absolutely loved her performance throughout the entire film and just felt very balanced.

Dean Norris…… Before I even go into this performance, I just want to say that I loved Breaking Bad and his performance in it was matched in MW&C . Norris plays Kent Mooney who plays a recently divorced dad who is trying to raise his son and accept the changes that has happened to him and his son. Norris brings it in all aspects that is required for is character.

Ansel Elgort was the top performer in my opinion, his rich portrayal of a teenager who is lost emotionally is outstanding and on par. Elgort plays Tim Mooney who is just trying to navigate through life and discover his purpose. Elgort takes his performance to new heights emotionally and shows why he is on of the top young adult actors.

I would call the acting strong in MW&C, none of it is award worthy but it is very well delivered.

Ansel Elgort and Kaitlyn Dever in Men, Women & Children
Ansel Elgort and Kaitlyn Dever in Men, Women & Children

DIRECTION: REITMAN! I feel like if this film would have been done by anyone else then I  would have not have liked it. Reitman is a director who I admire very much and have made mental notes to see many more of his films. Reitman’s main goal with MW&C was to show life and love in the digital age that this society live in. I loved the way that Reitman shot this movie with his close up and  personal camera angles and nice, long, and beautiful shots. He mastered this film and the watcher can tell he gave it his all.

WRITING: Not too bad…. The writing was not bad by any means but there were parts that I feel could have had more dialogue. Jason Reitman, Erin Cressida Wilson wrote the screenplay and the novel was written by Chad Kultgen  I loved some of the lines in the film and they made me feel good and there were some silent moments which is assumed due to the films premise on technology and how often the character are typing on their phones.

Adam Sandler and Rosmarie DeWitt in Men, Women & Children
Adam Sandler and Rosmarie DeWitt in Men, Women & Children

CINEMTOGRAPHY: I didn’t really see a lot visually from MW&C and that is ok because you know that this is not what the film relies on. I saw plenty of pretty shots but nothing that we have not all seen before. Eric Steelberg does good and does his best with what he is given.

OVERVIEW: MW&C does a solid job with its acting, amazing direction, and good (but flawed) writing. I watched it feeling good and was always curious in which direction the characters would go next. If you are looking for a good, casual and nice movie to watch then I would recommend this to anyone.

OVERALL GRADE: 7.8/10

Gone Girl (2014) Review

Posted on Updated on

MV5BMTQyNjUxMjU5Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDk5MzM5MDE@._V1__SX2087_SY1007_

You don’t know what you got until it’s…

David Fincher does it again! Let me just start by saying that David Fincher is simply amazing and is probably my favorite director and shows why he is at the top of his game by bringing the dark, twisted world of Gillian Flynn’s novel to life.

GONE GIRL, The movie itself: Simply amazing is the words that can be used the describe this film, this film breaths mystery and leaves the watcher in a state of thought long after the credits roll. Gone Girl is the story of Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) whose wife Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) goes missing one morning suddenly and as the story progresses, you suddenly realize that not everything is what it seems and not everyone is who they seem. Ultimately, this is a story of two married people who ultimately see their marriage lead them into a world of confusion, destruction, and betrayal.

ACTING: Ben Affleck did ok in my opinion, he does a great job of playing the husband who has had his wife go missing and plays his part very well. I really did not see any moments that stuck out for Affleck, he does good and you won’t be disappointed by his acting but it’s really just average.

Rosamund Pike is stunning! I’ll be honest, I had never seen a Rosamund Pike film before and I picked a damn good one to start. Pike creates such a dark and mysterious tone for her character that just sticks with you and makes you addicted to her throughout the entire film. I wish she would have been in every scene, with her voice, movement, actions, and portrayal of her character is the reason she snagged a Golden Globe nomination and most recently an Oscar nomination.

Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl
Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl

DIRECTION: DAVID FINCHER! Fincher is the absolute best, he has such a tone and vibe to his movies that is hard to shake and get rid of. Fincher does an amazing job of bringing the dark, brooding, world to life with his amazing shots and his vision of scenes with the color and tone that he uses. Gone Girl’s atmosphere portrays one similar to Fincher’s The Social Network if not a better one. His direction of the film was nothing short of amazing with its plot and pace.

WRITING: The script is based off the novel by Gillian Flynn and for all I know does a hell of a good job. I personally never read the book so I can not compare the two. I can say that Flynn has created a world with deep mystery, dark characters, and story that needs to be seen to understand.

SUMMARY: If you love David Fincher, a great mystery, academy award nominated acting, and just overall good movies then Gone Girl is the film to see. I would call it an absolute thrilling mystery that will leave you on edge throughout.

Boyhood (2014) Review

Posted on Updated on

A Story of Life, Love and Discovering Yourself

Ellar Coltrane in Boyhood

So I will usually break up my reviews into parts instead of going into some long description of the film. I will try and dissect every thing one by one.

BOYHOOD, The movie itself: Boyhood is nothing short of a masterpiece, I will say it is the best movie I have seen all year even though this year is just getting started! Boyhood was filmed one week every year for 12 years and the idea was nothing short of brilliant. Richard Linklater said he wanted to create a movie about the stages of boyhood, but he did not want to use different actors to play the same character, so this film was film was filmed with the same cast for 12 years and was well worth the wait.

ACTING: The acting is amazing and landed Patricia Arquette a Golden Globe win for best supporting actress. (Congrats)

Ella Coltrane as Mason is absolutely amazing and so drawn into his character. I really felt like I was watching him grow up and I know I really was, but I mean when a part would come where he would be older I would think to myself “man I bet he is going through this and that and etc…”

Patricia Arquette as Mom was brilliant! I mean her performance in the movie was so fascinating to watch because it made you almost feel like you were with her and had you wondering what she would go through next.

Ethan Hawke as Dad was great! Ethan brought a energy to the character that made you love him and did the perfect portrayal of what a father should be. FWI (He also scored a Golden Globe nomination)

DIRECTION: Richard Linklater was nothing short of absolutely genius throughout the whole making of this film. Linklater was so accurate and delivering of the stages of boyhood and the critical moments that it has that defines you and makes you who are and Linklater just does a good job of portraying Masons journey and giving an epic of a story.

WRITING: Richard Linklater  also did the writing for this one and it is just as good as his direction, the script is full of humor, drama, and just good life moments that hit the heart. I smiled a lot, wanted to cry at times, and sometimes just could relate and feel what the other characters are feeling. (so yeah Linklater did great on the writing as well)

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Boyhood is not the most visual film and you can tell that is not what it relies on. When their were visual moments, I truly loved them and thought they were beautiful.

SUMMARY: Boyhood is a masterpiece that everyone should see before they die, it is a movie of life, family, love, and becoming yourself!

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
